Overview
For many years, Southwestern Pennsylvania has been recognized as an area with the highest potential for wind energy in the Eastern United States. In an effort to increase the use of renewable fuel to produce substantial electric power, German-based E.ON Climate and Renewables looked to construct a 35 turbine wind farm set on more than 4,000 acres in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
With our proven longevity in the industrial power field, Sargent Electric Company was contracted to prepare the site for civil and electrical construction and to install infrastructure, cables and miscellaneous equipment for the 115 kV transmission lines.
The site, which was built on reclaimed surface coal mines, yields enough electricity to meet the needs of approximately 11,600 homes per year without consuming valuable non-renewable resources.
